Our first priorities are communicable diseases, especially outbreak-prone diseases, such as dengue fever, and emerging and re-emerging diseases.

Our programme is also the Focal Point of the Coordinating Body of the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN) and a large part of our activities aim at strengthening PPHSN services: PacNet, LabNet, EpiNet, PICNet, the Pacific Syndromic Surveillance System and the Strengthening Health Interventions in the Pacific (SHIP)/Data for decision-making (DDM) programme.

SPC has provided technical support in epidemiology, surveillance and response to communicable diseases since more than 50 years. Our range of activities has changed over the years in accordance to the epidemiological context and the needs and demands of the Pacific Island countries and territories.
